What began as an attempt to breed for orange uropods ended with delightful serendipity. One of Roach Crossing’s primary scaber projects for years centered around creating a doppelganger for the beloved Nesodillo/Cubaris sp. “White Tiger”. After honing in on the phenotype using California stock, the project hit an unfortunate but fruitful snag. The strain’s best individuals were actually heterozygous for leucism, enabling the creation of the “Lucy” line but rendering it useless for creating a consistent white tiger phenotype. In another bin, a pair of barely reproductive size California stock that had been painstakingly hand-selected for their unique orange uropods were getting busy. A few months and generations later, the results were not expected: no heritable orange uropods, but plenty of white tiger-esque individuals! If the price point and difficulty of Nesodillo/Cubaris sp. “White Tiger” has put you off, don’t worry; these guys are just as cute and much more forgiving!
