This flat isopod is very common as an introduced species in the eastern United States and can frequently be found year-round under bark and logs in moist woods. They are extremely cold tolerant and may even be thermophobic as they are not commonly found in the United States south of northern Alabama. The skirted isopod has a voracious appetite and will even feed on moldy foods that many other invertebrates will not touch!
