The white ant springtail is a common resident of ant colonies and is suspected to have expanded from its previous South American range into North America. This species can be hit-and-miss as a clean-up crew, but fortunately is quite proficient at reproducing outside an ant nest if provided plenty of food. Its bright, white color and tendency to skitter on top of objects makes it an ideal feeder for small predators. Continued experience with this species and wild observations suggest it prefers hot conditions. Small numbers survive the cold northern winters deep in ant nests and then enumerate rapidly in the summer heat.
