This very timid species prefers to stay buried most of the time. They are most easily seen early in the morning or late at night, at which times the adults are particularly active. The smaller males court females by flapping their stubby wings in front of then. This species is also uniquely tolerant of the cold and continues breeding at temperatures as low as 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
