This is an excellent feeder species and one of my personal favorites. The females can give birth to forty or more young and can do so every two months. In my experience, these are more prolific than Blaptica dubia! The nymphs are very stocky and meaty. While it has been preached for years that this species nibbles conspecifics’ wings due to lack of protein or moisture, wild individuals possess the same wing tattering. This may be the natural state of the species, as they do not have the proper wing muscle physiology for powered flight and do not need their wings fully intact otherwise.
