Detailed Species Stats -Click-
Balta is a large, confusing genus with many similar-looking roaches. There may be many undescribed species, and even more in related genera. It is highly unlikely these speciose entities will ever receive proper representation in culture, but the few we do have are at least quite beautiful or interesting. Balta notulata is a good candidate for “baby’s first Ectobiid” as it a charismatic and forgiving entity, relative to many other smaller Ectobiids. Adults of both sexes are fully winged and intricately patterned with a rich network of chestnutty brown to faintly purplish veins. Bucking the trend in large roaches like Blaberus, the nymphs are objectively gorgeous as well and hold their own against the adult coloration. Colonies at high density seem more inclined to diurnal behavior than other physically similar Ectobiids.
