10/28/2021: An answer to the internal map debate?
When the site first went live, I had a lot more time for graphic work and adding that extra little something to some of the pages. Unfortunately in order to continue providing the newer content people have come to love and find useful, I don’t have the time or meticulous forbearance to continue updating and creating the range maps for the roach species I’ve been adding. A lot of that work has already been done on the Cockroach Species File, and that information is backed up directly with specimen records. It is with a heavy heart that I am in the final stages of considering removing the map images from the site.
Some other pros include better formatting (every few updates it seems something with the publisher skews the images and interrupts the flow on the pages), faster species page updates, and on my end not having to host the gigantic map files.
If there are any strong feelings about this decision, please let me know. I’m happy to share the maps I’ve already made and point folks to the Cockroach Species File for that juicy information.
I need to mention this decision will not affect the sort by Continent feature, which will continue to be functional as it has been.
