11/27/2022: “Androhamana” Princisia taking forever

Earlier this year I was given a pair of two very special hissing cockroaches, Gromphadorhina portentosa “Masoala” and Princisia vanwaerebeki “Androhamana”, both wild strains with locality information (sort of in the case of the portentosa, more on that later).

While the portentosa have turned into an actual culture already… the Princisia have not done much in several months. The enclosure is the same as another that has produced abundant Princisia of another strain, yet the singular female refuses to give birth. I almost wonder if there’s some stimulus to get them to drop offspring as TJ seems to be having the same issue. I will just sit on my hands and hope for something to happen soon, as this is a strain that we desperately need to get going in great numbers.

The adult male REALLY did not want to be photographed but with some not-gentle convincing he encouraged me to work at his pace.
