12/16/2020: A fresh coat of paint
Greetings everyone,
As some have noticed, there have been sizable changes to the content and aesthetic of the site. The last few years haven’t been ideal for me, but I feel some things have really materialized in the last few months and I’d like to get things up to the speed they should have always been. Without rambling, here are a few things on the to-do list:
-Regular blog posts. Once upon a time I used this section of the site for newsworthy things, but frankly that put too much formal pressure on the function for me. I’d like to keep things a little less formal and more of a window into the day-to-day challenges and projects I’m working on, which will mean a lot more entries.
-Species page updates. At some point the site formatting changed and some of the pictures came out of line. Unfortunately for me this means manually adjusting each and every one of them back to position. Some of the detailed species stats will be updated to reflect my collective experiences.
–New Species. Despite my scarceness and the state of the world, the last year and a half has been splendid for my invertebrate collection. It feels quite daunting but another 100 or so species and cultivars of roaches, isopods, springtails, and more are on their way. At bare minimum it takes 30 minutes of work to create and flesh out a new page, so I will add what I can when I can. I’d like to get in the groove of adding a little every week, but it’s easier for me to slate out work days specifically for new pages.
–More husbandry supplies AND merch. This has been a goal for years and now with some extra storage space I can make it happen. Eventually there may even be enclosure options posted, but that’s still heavily in the work in progress zone. Roaches need more apparel love and I’m working on a line of hats and shirts for the blattologically minded.
–Rebooting the ol’ Youtube and social media. The few videos I posted to the now-abandoned Youtube channel were quite popular, but I never felt like they had a satisfactory level of polish for me. I’m looking into options to produce some quality care and informative content, but this may be a few months off (if it ever happens). For those seeking me on Facebook, that may be a bygone age considering how much of a drain it is on my productivity, but I won’t count a return for posting content out of the question just yet.
It’s good to be back and I hope everyone’s staying safe and mentally stimulated during these odd times!
-Kyle
