2/2/2022: Captive bred Damon diadema getting big
Myself and many others have witnessed the shift in captive invertebrate importation over the last 20 years, and it is a well-known fact that things that are common one day may be coveted rarities the next. If anything, this alone provides one of the strongest (if not shallow) arguments for captive breeding things.
Some very intelligent and dedicated enthusiasts have been working with these once common, now rare species, and one of them was kind enough to swap me some of her most recent progeny. She has been propagating Damon diadema, once the most common commercial whipspider, for about a decade with epic results
My hope is to establish my own captive breeding group of these guys as they’re now nonexistent as imports, and those were always on death’s door in my experience anyways. Maybe one day I’ll be as successful with them as she is! For now, I will be enjoying by horde of lil whippies.
