2/23/2021: Giant whispers from the tropical trees
With my shipping done and the collecting trip growing ever-nearer this has been an unconventional time to add to my projects, but some opportunities are too good to pass up.
Stilpnochlora couloniana is a massive neotropical katydid found sparingly in Florida and a species I’ve bred a few times. The tricky thing with herbivores at my latitude is finding sufficient food to keep them going through the winter, but fortunately S. couloniana is not a picky eater.
Females can take a long time to produce eggs and often only make one or two lines of a hundred or so before passing, so I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to make some of these guys available in the near future!
