7/27/2023: Pseudoglomeris magnifica rebound
Sometimes you can’t save the plane from crashing no matter how hard you pull up on the controls. This goes for roach colonies too… but it never hurts to try.
My Pseudoglomeris magnifica “Cuc Phuong” colony has gone through a few different enclosures over the last year as I’ve set starry eyes on bumping production. One ambitious project, a decked out 10 gallon with heating and polycarbonate underlay aimed at trapping humidity during the dry winter, was promising at first but ultimately disappointing. I ended up moving a group of mostly geriatric females to the old set-up and pampering them again, as I had done at the time of my Youtube video displaying a healthy, happy colony.
The summer humidity bump and higher room temp without elevated dry, furnace airflow has really made the colony come alive and given me a break from my watering duties. I’m happy to report the colony is no longer at risk of dying out and has produced a ton of nymphs, relative to the age and condition of the females. My hope now is to capitalize on this boom and continue the established extra-good care routine through the winter, with daily (possibly twice daily) mistings and perhaps by November I’ll be able to comfortably split the colony before making some available.
