The regal jumping spider is a North American treasure. These are large, active, lively, and personable jumping spiders with a matching repertoire of beautiful color forms. Although adult males are nearly always black, resembling super-sized Phidippus audax, females can be grey, peach, orange, rufous, or black, each with a blend of spots and speckles of other colors. These spiders inhabit many different environments but are most commonly encountered in scrub. They are extremely capable predators, and though they will take many different things in captivity, seem to have a penchant for grasshoppers in the wild.

This is probably the best spider for handling as biting is exceptionally rare, and perhaps the best pet spider period; when provided with a large enclosure every corner will be utilized and explored. These are visual predators with high intelligence for an invertebrate, and as very visually-oriented creatures they show the widest range of behavior and fair best with good lighting.
