Isolated and refined by Roach Crossing.
Roach Crossing began work on “Scorpio” circa 2015, using stock from the potentially now-lost “Orin’s Calicoes” line and wild-caught Michigan red calico females. The Spanish genetics present in “Orin’s Calicoes” were used to tease a calico phenotype out of the males, and the the best male was subsequently back-crossed to his offspring for several generations. A single pair was selected for the fifth generation, and after cementing quality calico males in the line, the strain was left to perpetuate. These are quaintly colorful isopods that are usually faint orange calicoes, although rarely yellow calico females with orange dorsal pleons are produced. The original individuals were pulled from an old scorpion enclosure where they had outlasted their arachnid cohabitants, hence the moniker “Scorpio”.
