If you scramble over limestone crags in just the right spots on Key Largo and let the sharp rocks rip into your delicate hand meat as you flip them over, you may be lucky enough to find the skittering treasure that is the archipelago whipspider. This is a medium size whipspider that has truly ignited my interest in this order. They are very easy to keep singly, but much to my surprise do extremely well communally too! It’s critical to offer appropriately sized foods for all life stages, mostly for the tiny newborns which require equally tiny prey. The current colony of roughly 50 is maintained in a 5.5 gallon enclosure with multiple bark slabs arranged both horizontally and vertically. Despite being nocturnal, I often see a few individuals near the glass or skulking on top of bark during the day.
