In forest ecosystems, springtails are key decomposers of leaf matter. They reproduce astoundingly fast and will consume all kinds of organic debris, decreasing fungus and mold growth dramatically in enclosures. They are an ideal component of any tank clean-up crew, and are also the perfect feeder for tiny dart frogs as well as tiny predators such as pseudoscorpions. The small silver species is not as explosively prolific as some others, but it resists temperature and humidity extremes the best.
