As with the orange spot assassin bug, this entity’s identity was changed and identified as Platymeris laevicollis after being traded for years as Platymeris rhadamanthus. Red spots have always been the odd man out of the U.S. Platymeris sp.; extremely coveted due to their deep red coloration but always the hardest to find. In my experience this species has been less cannibalistic than the other Platymeris species but the least capable at tackling large prey. Although it is roughly the same length as Platymeris biguttatus, the red spot assassin bug appears smaller as its body is more gracile.
