Isolated and refined by Roach Crossing.
Around 2012 I noticed some lighter individuals in my pure “Spanish Orange” colony and, being a fan of gradients, decided to breed for the trait. Many years later and my selections are still going strong. This is my first formal release of this variety, and as I do a cull every year to only the most exceptional individuals, the quality has only increased over time. Regardless, this trait is true breeding and my nitpicking may be unnecessary. These are simple recessive, pure “Spanish Orange” scaber that have breed for a front-back gradient of nearly white to pale orange. Preliminary crosses with other projects reveal that this trait is retained in the wild type coloration, with the front end being nearly white and the back being the standard color. Both males and females show this trait although females are always the most striking. Much like the shine on powdery blue isopods, well-ventilated and drier conditions encourage the best pattern display in this variety.
