Detailed Species Stats -Click-
The rubber ducky isopod is one of the most popular and sought-after species. When viewed from the front the segments of their head resemble a yellow duckling’s bill and face! They are found in caves in Thailand and are one of a number of southeast Asian Cubaris sp. which have entered the isopod hobby in the last few years, many of which are unidentified or not yet named scientifically. They are relatively easy to care for but not as forgiving as many commonly kept species. Their reproduction rate is best described as gradual and consistent and individuals can live for several years with good care. Contrary to some sources, limestone is not necessary to keep this or other southeast Asian Cubaris sp. and at best only helps to buffer the pH of the substrate in their enclosure. A good microbiologically rich substrate of leaf litter, sphagnum moss, and wood mulch is integral to keeping these and many other species healthy. Roach Crossing offers only captive bred rubber ducky isopods as wild-caughts are often plagued with health issues related to their capture and transport.
