Detailed Species Stats -Click-
Pie-dish beetles are amusing darkling beetles with curved elytra and pronota, resembling the edges of a pie dish. Due to their hardiness and pleasant personality, they do well in mixed darkling species enclosures. Like other small darklings without diapause requirements, these are very easy to raise in mixed life stage enclosures if a deep, damp, compactable, and sandy substrate is provided for larvae to pupate in. The studded pie-dish beetle is probably the most iconic member of the genus as the uninterrupted ridge around the body gives a truly realistic pie dish shape to their form. This species is less dryness tolerant than Embaphion contusum.
