Breaking the typical nocturnal roach mold, the cloaked sun roach is a striking day-active species. Adults and nymphs frequently perch on stems and leaves and are believed to passively pollinate flowers! Nymphs are born solid black and extremely tiny at roughly 1 millimeter and grow steadily into brilliant red, orange, and black marked subadults with yellow highlights. Adults are not as striking but do possess yellow highlights with black to dusky-rufous wings. This is a very high-strung species and the nymphs scuttle excitedly when stimulated or presented with food, and adults are excellent fliers and readily fly; a secure enclosure is a must for this species!
