The pink cockroach holds the title of “unsung Holy Grail” of the cockroach hobby. For years, many have tried to breed this species consistently, yet most hobbyists never see a single litter. From experience, heat, fruits and vegetables, and a well-aerated substrate appear to encourage both activity as well as breeding. It is not unusual to see the beautiful adults clustered on bark or egg cartons during the day time, and at night the yellow-speckled nymphs will peep out of the substrate in search of food. This species is not recommended for beginners, but is certain to challenge any roach enthusiasts who dare keep it. Years of trial and error have cemented my beliefs that heat and ventilation are critical for this species, along with good crowding for the nymphs with places up and away from the juvenile action for the adults to perch.
