5/7/2022: A big upgrade for Arenivaga apacha “Cave Creek Canyon”
8 months ago Will and I set out on our Arizona collecting blitz, with my goal being to re-collect as many Arenivaga species and get them culturing once and for all. It has been a road of ups and downs with humidity regulation and grain mite issues here and there, but the majority of my colonies have been thriving just as I had dreamed. A few are now large enough to move on to their final enclosures, where they will hopefully propagate in perpetuity. The honor for the first to move belongs to Arenivaga apacha “Cave Creek Canyon”, a spiritual favorite for me due to all the memories at the locality.
This colony is nearly large enough to make some available and at a certain point soon should feel the full force of the Allee effect, though I won’t be comfortable until there are nearly a thousand individuals. Godspeed little guys, I know you can do it!
